Thirty years ago, an old story was told anew, reinvigorating a genre and capturing the imagination of a generation unfamiliar with its like. While overshadowed by the 30th anniversary of Star Wars, Terry Brooks’ “The Sword of Shannara” also made its debut in 1977 and in some ways did for fantasy writing what Lucas’ epic did for sci-fi flicks.
